When you are finished your poem...

When you are finished your poem.

1. Explain each literary device you used in your poem (You should have 5 different examples).

a.What is the literary device?

Literary device is a skill in writing poem, all the popular poems are all have literary device. Literary device includes a lot of mode such as alliteration, personification, repetition and so on. Over all, literary device can help writers create their mood, tone and rhythm in the poem and can also attract readers.

b. What is the example from your poem?

Image :Tomorrow sun still rising up from the horizon,

tomorrow birds still singing on the branches,

personification:Tomorrow sun still rising up from the horizon,

tomorrow birds still singing on the branches,

alliteration: Tomorrow sun still rising up from the horizon,

tomorrow birds still singing on the branches,

repetition:The landscape never changed in the town,
only fascinate and lively.
This is not a place I'm looking for,
what am i looking for?
A place doesn't need fantastic landscape,
only peaceful and fair.
A place without conflict and jealous,
that is what i am looking for!

In this poem i used free verse.

c. Why did you use it (Create mood? Create tone? Create rhythm? Create meaning?)Use 3-5 sentences to explain the example.

I think it's not only create tone but also create mood. Let's take the repetition as an example, i used "I'm looking for" two times which can expressed my desire of looking for a place that peaceful and fair very strongly, also twice of "I'm looking for" expressed how i insist on looking for a new place.

2. Using 12-15 sentences, explain the insightful and mature meaning of your poem.THINK DEEP AND THINK DEEPER!

Firstly, Canadian landscape is very beautiful, people live in Canada are very lucky. But for me i do not need a place with a fantastic landscape it's not important to me. Although live in a place with perfect landscape sounds very good and people are looking forward to it, but my idea is a fantastic place cannot give people happiness, if i can't keep a good mood everyday, no matter how beautiful landscape around me, i can't feel it. Overall, i wish i can find a place without conflict and where can keep me in a nice mood, even i live in a place that nothing have only some weeds and dead branches i can still feel like there is a fantastic landscape around me.

3. What is your poem about?

My poem is about one day i wish i can going to a place that peaceful and fair, let me enjoy the life with fresh air and cup of tea, so that i will never depressed or cried any more.

4. How do you represent the Canadian landscape in your poem? Use 3-5 sentences.

In the first and the last stanza i wrote tomorrow the sun still going to rising up and birds still singing on the branches and the second stanza i wrote the town is fascinate and lively which all represent in Canada the landscape is very beautiful and good for people live.

5. Imagine you are an explorer and sent this poem to your King or Queen, how would they feel about the Canadian landscape?

This is a pretty series question. i don't think they will like my poem because i don't have too much experience to writing poem. But i wish they feel Canadian landscape is fantastic and they will love to travel to Canada or even move their whole people to living in Canada.^_^

Create Your Own Landscape Poem Project

Create Your Own Landscape Poem Project

You are going to create your own landscape poem. Think of all the things you have learned about poetry including language, shape and rhythm.

1. Choose an image of the Canadian landscape.

You need to know where the picture is taken
just like the one about Georgian Bay.

2. With your image, you need to have a poem with a title.
Your poem needs 16-25 lines with at least 5 different examples of literary devices.

You must put your literary devices in a different colour so I know you know when you used them.

3. Post it on your blog in a nice and presentable manner.

You will be marked on:

The MOST IMPORTANT PART --- Quality and Maturity of your poem

Is it creative, original, thoughtful and insightful?
Does it relate to the picture? Do you connect to your picture?
Do you have at least 5 different examples of literary devices?
Does it follow the instructions? Do you complete it? Do you have a title?
Is it presented in a clear and creative way on your blog?
Do you have a lot of spelling and grammar mistakes?
Is your language poetic?

Important

Use your own words to make creative poetry. Don't copy from the Internet and put it as your own words. I want to know about your ideas!

Leaving the town

Tomorrow sun still rising up from the horizon,

tomorrow birds still singing on the branches,

tonight I'm leaving the town,

and this won't make anyone down.

The landscape never changed in the town,

only fascinate and lively.

This is not a place I'm looking for,

what am i looking for?

A place doesn't need fantastic landscape,

only peaceful and fair.

A place without conflict and jealous,

that is what i am looking for!

Tomorrow sun still rising up from the horizon,

tomorrow birds still singing on the branches,

tonight i am leaving the town,

and this won't make anyone down.

( in this poem i used free verse o(∩_∩)o Because free verse is through the whole poem, so sorry about i can't change colour.)

This is just a idea, I still not finished yet. :-)

An Alliance with the Huron Empire

Questions

The Hurons were a group of First Nations people who were in an alliance with Champlain. They were closely related to the Iroquois, but had become their enemies.
1. What is an alliance? What does this word mean?

An alliance is country corporation a between of to countries. I think this word the same to the confederation.

Great traders themselves, the Hurons navigated the rivers of Central Canada and were very prosperous. They would become the leading source of furs for the French.
2. Why would Champlain want to form an alliance with the Hurons?

Because Champlain thought if he wants to have furs business with the French, he has to support or even get together with Native Americans.(Native Americans can hunt and supply the fur to Champlain.) That will make the business going easier than usual. Also, form an alliance with the Hurons can make Champlain more powerful so he is able to fight with his enemies.

3. This is a picture of Champlain and his Huron allies on the left fighting the Iroquois. This is one of the earliest images of Europeans and First Nations people interacting.
a. Explain what you see in the picture in 3-5 sentences. Look carefully at the picture.

In this picture there has a war between Champlain with his Hurons allies and Iroquois. looking by this picture i feel that Champlain's army is less than Iroquois has. It is all because the fur trade, they are fighting near by a bay and the weapon they are using is arrow.

b. Do you think this is a realistic image of the situation? Explain why or why not in 5-8 sentences.
Not really, because this is just a picture i think the war can be more cruel and real. But i can't say this picture is totally not a realistic image of the situation, because the picture shows who in the war, where they fight and how they fight. I can still feel the intense from the picture, but because of the picture is not cruel so i think this picture is not really a realistic image of the situation.

4. The Hurons had many economic advantages because of their geographic location and territory. They were located on the southern shore of Georgian Bay, where the fishing was excellent.
a. Find a map of Georgian Bay. Explain where this bay is.
http://www.muskieontario.com/georgianbay.html
The Georgian Bay is on the west of Toronto and connect a large area from the north of Toronto. and includes Killarney Mountain Lodge, Georgian Bay Fishing Camp and Pleasant Cove Resort.

http://www.cottagesincanada.com/loonbaysunsetcottage/

b. Translate the word bay.

A bay is an indentation of a shoreline larger than a cove but smaller than a gulf.

5 . Find a photograph of Georgian Bay that you like. Explain why you like it in 3-5 sentences. The vegetation of this region includes mixed forests, meadows, and fields. The sandy soil was perfect for planting corn, squash, pumpkins, and beans.
http://www.marinasontario.com/destination_guide_story_7.asp?reg=7 In this picture we can see a man who sit on a big rock and he is watching at the sea, the sea is looks green maybe by the sun and the forest which is not far from the man. I love this situation, i want one day that i can sit on that big rock, listen to bird's sing, watch the sea, feel the wind blows through my face and even maybe i can go down from the big rock pick up some beautiful stone or shell. It is so peaceful and i think i will enjoy it.

6. Take a look at this piece of Canadian Art called "Stormy Weather". The artist is Frederick Varley. He illustrated the stormy weather of Georgian Bay.
a. How do you feel when you see this painting? Explain in 5-8 sentences. Tell me why you feel that way.

At first, it is a nice painting i can feel the wind and i can heard the sounds from the sea wave hit the rocks. I really like it, but this painting is make me feel a little bit sad because i think in the painting is no one there and by the shine i think the sun is going down the world is getting dark.It is so desolate.

7. This is a poem by A.J.M Smith. It was put together with this image on a past provincial exam.
a. When you read this poem, how do you feel about the Canadian landscape? Explain in 10-12 sentences. Think deep and be creative.

The Lonely LandA.J.M. Smith

Cedar and jagged fir
uplift sharp barbs
against the gray
and cloud-piled sky;
and in the bay
blown spume and windrift
and thin, bitter spray
snap
at the whirling sky;
and the pine trees
lean one way.

A wild duck calls
to her mate,
and ragged
and passionate tones
stagger and fall,
and recover,
and stagger and fall,
on these stones -
are lost
in the lapping of water
on smooth, flat stones.

This is a beauty
of dissonance,
this resonance
of stony strand,
this smoky cry
curled over a black pine
like a broken
and wind-battered branch
when the wind
bends the tops of the pine
like a broken
and wind-battered branch
when the wind
bends the tops of the pines
and curdles the sky
from the north.

This is the beauty
of strength
broken by strength
and still strong

The landscape is not only beautiful but also make people sad. The first sentence of this poem tell us the poem is written in winter. Winter represent death and sadness. In the first stanza the writer wrote"and cloud-piled sky; and in the bay blown spume and windrift and thin, bitter spray" (line 4-7) it is so sad, for me i can't live in winter with "Cloud-piled" sky, because it can makes me get depression. And in the second stanza the writer wrote"and passionate tones stagger and fall, and recover, and stagger and fall, on these stones are lost in the lapping of water."(line 15-20) those sentences used personification. the stone's "passionate tones" of the stone is lost in the lapping of water. the situation is so quiet! but the landscape is also beautiful! I like this poem and i hope one day that i can create a poem like this.

8. What did you learn in this lesson? Explain in 5-8 sentences.

In this lesson i understand Champlain's motivation about form an alliance with Hurons. War is cruel and fur trade during that time was really important to people who want to doing business.I learned the word bay, and bay is easy to doing transport. and by doing the homework i read a new poem, it is very nice and makes me feel i should work harder that one day i can create a same level poem as " The Lonely Land". Everyday i can learn a lot of new information and I'm so treasure those valuable knowledge. I will keep my hard working and learn more knowledge.
